‘I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand’ Confucius

My philosophy is that young children learn best through high quality structured play. Through play children can make sense of their world and relate to others, both their peers and to adults.

Before the children start school links will have been forged with two local playgroups/nurseries. Liaison between these settings and our school is vital for a ‘smooth’ transition. My team and I work hard to ensure the children settle easily, we invite children into school whenever appropriate before they start, for example to the teddy bears picnic, and for several mornings in the term before they are due to start school.

In the Reception class children access the Foundation stage curriculum in a lively and exciting way. I use the children’s inherent interests as starting points for our topics. The classroom, both inside and outside, offers a stimulating environment for learning to take place. I recognise that every child is unique and so strive to meet the needs of all the children in my care.

I offer an ‘open- door’ policy for parents. Parents are encouraged to talk to us about their children and to actively support them in their learning. Together we can celebrate their success!

I believe that the firmer the foundations, the stronger the building; so it is with young children.

A ‘hands on’ practical approach to learning is very important in the Foundation stage after all it is the FoUNdation stage!
