In the Kingfisher Class the children from both Key Stage 1 and 2 work closely together. In Year 2, the focus is on developing the children's confidence in all areas of the curriculum. This is then re-inforced and built upon in Year 3, enabling the children to apply their knowledge and understanding for themselves, and in so doing become independent learners.

As I work 4 out of 5 days, Mrs Ray and I work closely together to ensure that the children achieve a rich and varied education. I teach all aspects of Numeracy and within Literacy I focus on spellings, grammar and fiction writing. I also teach Science, R.E., P.H.S.E., Design Technology and P.E./ Dance/ Games.

As there are two age groups within one class we work on a rolling programme for R.E. and D.T. The children are split into their year groups for their different Science topics. They also work within their separate year groups for spelling sessions, to ensure that the children can develop and build upon spelling strategies already taught in their previous year.

French is taught for half an hour to all the children by Mrs Hallam (a trained teacher, who is also one of our mums) and in order to support this work start to teach a basic vocabulary to the Year 1 children each September, based on rhymes, games and stories.
